Dance of the Candy Canes, a quilt block designed by Joshua Dunn of Lifting and Stitching for the Quiltmas Spectacular 2025. #DanceCandyCanesBlock #QuiltmasSpectacular

When I was a kid, decorating the Christmas tree was pure magic, and my favorite task was always hanging the candy canes. I loved spiraling them around the branches, mimicking the twist of colors on each sweet treat. One year, despite protests from my siblings, we had a mix of peppermint and spearmint canes. I recall arranging them in alternating rows—red, then green—a quiet little dance circling the tree. So, for this quilt block, I have designed a duet of candy canes, as if they are learning to waltz; two partners poised in rhythm, swirling in sweet holiday tradition.

I used four Art Gallery Fabrics PURE Solids in Undeniably Red (PE-537), Hunter Fields (PE-466), Coconut Milk (PE-540) and Crystal Pink (PE-420). To piece, I used Aurifil 50wt in Muslin (#2311). I used PreQuilt to mock up and color my block.

This block is only available as part of the Quiltmas Spectacular! If you haven’t reserved your spot in the sleigh, sign up now! It’s not too late to celebrate the season with me and the 11 other modern quilt pattern designers!

Don’t wait too long to join - the Quiltmas patterns are only available for a limited time. We close up the Quiltmas Workshop December 31, 2025.

Five days of Quiltmas down, only seven more to go!
